Wimbledon is the oldest Grand Slam. It's also, by many measures, the most logistically demanding sporting event in Europe. For two weeks each July, the quiet streets of SW19 absorb over 500,000 visitors.
The All England Club manages approximately 6,000 on-site parking spaces across Church Road and Somerset Road, with overflow for an additional 4,000 vehicles at Wimbledon Park. On peak days, over 8,500 vehicles arrive within a four-hour window.
For all its tradition, Wimbledon's parking operation remains largely manual — paper permits, radio communications, staff-directed routing. Without license plate recognition, verifying permits takes 45 seconds per vehicle. Modern venues have solved this.
The venues that handle comparable volumes most efficiently share three traits: entry-point automation, pre-arrival SMS to distribute demand, and treating parking as the first impression of the event. That's what people deserve.
